The anatomical approach in stellate ganglion injection.

T H E sympathetic outflow to the head and neck and the greater part of that to the upper limbs passes on each side through the relatively small confines of the stellate ganglion and is here subject to interruption by stellate ganglion block. This block will cut off all efferent sympathetic impulses to the head and neck and most, if not all, of those to the upper limb and may be of value for exa...

developmental study of the cervicothoracic (stellate) ganglion in ovine fetus

sheep as an experimental animal has been used in many veterinary researches. the developmental study of the ovine cervicothoracic ganglion in the fetal stages will reveal the anatomy of the sympathetic nervous system in the adult sheep and morphological and morphometrical relation between this ganglion and surrounding structures. the aim of this research was to follow morphological and morphome...

Spread of injectate after stellate ganglion block in man: an anatomical study.

Stellate ganglion injections were performed using methylene blue 20 ml in 20 cadavers before postmortem examination. There was spread of solution into the posterior mediastinum and over the apical pleura. There was no spread onto the thoracic sympathetic chain.

Contractions of the squid stellate ganglion.

Optical recording methods were used to characterize the intrinsic movements of squid stellate ganglia. Ganglionic contractions were rhythmic and occurred at a mean frequency of 8 min-1. Contractions were eliminated when Na+ in the external saline were replaced by Tris, but were only slowed when Na+ was replaced by sucrose. This suggests that Na+ plays some role in generating the contractions, b...
